Self-Actualisation in Business

In 1954 psychologist Abraham Maslow developed his ‘Hierarchy of Needs’ behaviour model which consisted of the following (in order of importance): 1.    Physiological (food, water, shelter, warmth) 2.    Safety (security, stability, freedom from fear) 3.    Belonging/Love (friends, family, love) 4.    Self Esteem (Achievement, recognition, respect) 5.    Self-Actualisation (Pursue inner talent, creativity, fulfillment) To achieve self-actualisation, he identified some key behaviours/characteristics including: •    Experiencing life with full absorption/concentration •    Trying new things •    Listening to feelings and experiences, rather than tradition, authority or majority •    Being honest •    Taking responsibility •    Working hard •    Identifying and battling your weaknesses Maslow did not equate self-a...
